How to Create a Blessings Journal - Creative Team Thursday with Karen Gaunt

Hello everyone and welcome to another project for Jessica Sporn Designs. I’m very excited to share this project with you today as I am working in one of my favorite journals, my altered book. I love to work in the book as the text always gives some great interest to the background and helps prevent that “stage fright” when looking at a blank page.

I’m using the Sacred Words and Marks Stencil from Stencilgirl and the Hamsa Blessings stamp from Rubbermoon. I really enjoyed working on the page and as you can see from the video the steps were simple but it led to a lovely layered spread nonetheless.

Thanks so much for watching!

Karen Gaunt is a mixed media artist with a passion for color and a soft spot for paint. She works in a regular job full time and daydreams all day about the moment she can let loose in her journals in the evening. She's a mother as well and loves nothing more than creating with her daughter in their matching art journals. Karen believes that making Art is for everyone and loves to encourage and inspire others to make. She enjoys trying new techniques and colors and believes that there is no such thing as too many art journals.  Visit her at her blog and on Instagram.

How to Create a Juicy Background

Before I get to today's topic, the winner of the Valentine's Day blog hop is Monica Garcia!

Thank you to all who participated in our hop. We loved sharing our art with you!

And now, to my tutorial.  As you probably are aware, I love painting angels.  These days, more than ever, I feel compelled to call upon them and manifest them in my life.  It's been a rough few weeks; we need angels more than ever.

Here's a look at how I created a juicy, inviting background for some angels.  The techniques are applicable to any art journal page or mixed media project.

You can also watch "Creating a Background for Angels" on YouTube here.

My daughters and I attended the Women's March on Washington in late January.

Were you there or did you participate in any of the marches in your state or around the world? It was amazing to see the outpouring of people, and the love and support for compassion, tolerance and empathy.

Here's my older daughter's account of our experience, I Was There, which was wonderful, inspiring and heartbreaking all at the same time.

Sometimes I am exhausted trying to resist the daily executive orders and pronouncements coming from Washington.  But then, I remember that I have my sisters with me.  That, and taking refuge in my artwork, sustains me.

Thanks for visiting.

How to: Create Coffee Pop Art - Creative Team Thursday Denise Alloca

For the Love of Coffee!!  Nothing too serious … just coffee!  I used Jessica Sporn’s Coffee Stencil to create a series of Pop Art inspired canvases.  I isolated pieces of the stencil and created “master’ sheets to photocopy from.  I then used those sheets to collage the backgrounds for the paintings.

Watch! Be inspired! Enjoy a cup of coffee!

Supplies:
Coffee Stencil
Deco Arts Mixed Media Kit
Gesso
Matte Medium
Fluid Acrylic cadmium red hue
Fluid Acrylic Primary Yellow

Golden Acrylic Glazing Medium

10x10 canvas

So grab your favorite cup of Joe and enjoy my video on YouTube so you can see how you too can show off your love of coffee.  You can watch it on YouTube here https://youtu.be/6lW9gqv-Fjs

Have you visited our blog hop for Valentine's Day? You still have until Monday to visit all the blogs and comment for a chance to win Jessica's Seven Hearts Stencil.  Make sure to leave comments on all the blogs participating in the hop, for extra chances to win!

How I Find Angels and Two Video Tutorials

Before I get on with this post, I have an exciting announcement.

I am the designer for this month's Stencil Club stencils.  Hop over to Stencil Girl Talk for the big reveal!

Do you ever use your art to work out your feelings about the world?
In and Out of the World, featuring the Medieval Leaves Stencil
Many of my art journal spreadstags and paintings contain angels.

I don't always start off painting an angel, but one often appears when I am feeling particularly moved by a situation in the world.

It's my subconscious way of sending a prayer to refugees, victims of floods and earthquakes, or the people living in a state of constant terror and turmoil in Syria.

These are two paintings I recently completed.

They are both on 8 x 8" cradled wood board and are $145, including shipping anywhere in the world.  Just message me if you'd like one.  UPDATE: Four Angels is sold as of 9:58 AM!

I filmed some of my process to show you one of the ways I work.

I divided the video into two parts - creating the background, and manifesting the angels.

Here's Part I:

Here's Part II:

You can also watch Manifesting Angels on YouTube.

And don't forget to hop over to Stencil Girl Talk for the big reveal of this month's stencils!!
