Why Online Challenges are Great Creativity Boosters - The 100 Day Challenge - Part 2

Hello!  Today I am sharing the art from days 21 - 40 of my participation in the second 20 days of the #100dayproject on Instagram.  A few weeks ago, I posted days 1 - 20 here.  If you follow my friend Marjie's blogyou know that she is also participating in this creativity party that began on Instagram on April 19th. Each square represents 4 days of posts on Instagram.

The only requirement to be part of the challenge was to commit to some kind of daily creativity (writing, art, photo, cooking - whatever!).  I came up with the idea of #100daysofquirkycritters, and Marjie decided on #100daysofsmallsquares. You can find both our Instagram feeds here: Jessica's Instagram and Marjie's Instagram.

It's amazing how my designs have blossomed from simple quirky critters to an alphabet and now to numbers.  I wonder where I'll go next!

I don't think I would have ever completed this alphabet but for this challenge.  And now I've started on numbers!!

I hope you'll stay tuned to see how the rest of my alphabet shapes up.  You can jump into the challenge any time.   If you're participating in the challenge, please leave your handle and hashtag in the comments.  I'd love to see what you're doing!

Thanks for visiting.  Your comments make me so happy and let me know you were here. I read and treasure every comment and will happily answer any questions as soon as I can.

Why Online Challenges are Great Creativity Boosters - The 100 Day Challenge - Part 1

Happy Tuesday!

Today I am sharing twenty pieces of what started out being simple, small art.  These are the posts for my first 20 days of the #100dayproject on Instagram.  If you follow my friend Marjie's blogyou know that she is also participating in this creativity party that began on Instagram on April 19th.   She organized her post with these collaged squares of squares, and it seemed like a great way to organize them.  So thank you Marjie!

My critters started out pretty simply, with the funny owl, goose, cow and pig in the first picture, above.  But pretty soon, they got more and more detailed, with bits of color and stories coming with each picture.

I was having so much fun with them, that I decided to turn some of them into a new greeting card line called "Just Add Color."

As I'm writing this, my rep is at the Surface and Textile Design Show in New York, showing these to possible clients. What do you think?  Is a line of "color your own" greeting cards a good idea?  I hope so!!

Then... a course I'm taking called MATS (Make Art That Sells) Bootcamp gave us the prompt of Medieval motifs and illuminated lettering.  And my quirky critters began to inhabit a Medieval lettered alphabet.

Another mixed media friend doing this challenge is Michelle Rydelle, who is creating 100 Journal Pages for this challenge under the hashtag #100journalpagesforshelley2016.  And there are many more.  If you go on Instagram, searching #100dayproject will show you so many imaginative and beautiful entries.

I hope you'll stay tuned to see how the rest of my alphabet shapes up.  And you can jump into the challenge any time.   If you're participating in the challenge, please leave your handle and hashtag in the comments.  I'd love to see what you're doing!
