Stencil Test Drive - Frames!

Today, seven fabulous artists are join me for a test drive of my Frames stencil for Stencil Girl.

Here's what the stencil looks like:

One of the reasons I designed it is because I love to alter books and use them as frames.  Although border stencils work well to embellish any openings, a frame stencil works better!

For example, I cut out an opening on this book and used the oval frame for a picture of my daughter and my niece.  I made a niche in the inside to embed another picture, and used the smaller square frame to embellish it.

Remember this altered book from this post?  I showed step out photos to show you how I made it.

But now, here's a fast forward video of me creating it, and using the rectangular frame to surround the opening.

I can't wait to see what the other fabulous artists did with the frames stencil.  And best of all - I will give away a frames stencil to one lucky commenter --- and all the comments on all the blogs on this test drive will count towards the winner!  Just visit all the blogs and comment by Sunday night, 10/13, midnight EST.  So don't delay - go visit:

to see how they used the Frames Stencil.  I can't wait!

UPDATE:  The winner is -- from Anita Houston's blog:
Jo MurrayOctober 10, 2013 at 1:18 PM That's so clever....embossing twice. Worked really well...and this stencil is perfect for that technique.

  16. Awesome stencil design Jessica! For me there is nothing more annoying than spending ages altering a book & then misaligning the border dies. I usually revert to frame die cuts, but these are relatively flat & don't give the arty look of embossing paste. Thanks so much for solving this problem for us.

  29. Jessica - how big are the actual stencils? I have two silhouettes that I would like to "frame" with your stencils. I need open space in the middle of at least 6" high and 3 1/2" wide. Would your stencils work?

    1. sorry - the largest opening is 2"x 3 1/2". However, there is a corner among the stencils, and you can extend any of them using that corner and the sides from any of them. Hope that helps.
